About Us

Who We Are

Give Cares is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the mental and emotional wellness of Black men and boys.

Our mission is to create environments where Black men feel safe, supported, and empowered to prioritize their mental health without stigma or shame.

We understand that many Black men navigate a complex intersection of responsibilities, cultural expectations, and societal pressures that can affect their emotional well-being. Despite these realities, conversations about mental health within our communities have often been overlooked or discouraged.

Give Cares exists to break that silence.

Through mentorship, community support, education, and open dialogue, we are helping Black men develop the tools they need to live healthier and more balanced lives.

Our Vision

Give Cares Inc. is dedicated to raising awareness, reducing stigma, and improving access to mental health education and support within the Haitian and Black male communities. Founded in memory of Give E. Clerzeau, the organization works to empower individuals and families with the knowledge, resources, and community support needed to recognize the signs of mental health struggles, seek help early, and build stronger, healthier lives. Through education, outreach programs, partnerships, and culturally informed advocacy, Give Cares strives to ensure that no family experiences preventable loss due to a lack of mental health awareness.

Our Mission

Give Cares envisions a future where mental health is openly discussed, understood, and supported within Haitian and Black communities. We strive to build communities where men feel safe seeking help, families are equipped to recognize the signs of emotional distress, and individuals have access to culturally competent mental health resources. By breaking stigma and promoting compassion, education, and connection, Give Cares seeks to create a world where every person has the opportunity to live with hope, dignity, and emotional well-being.

The Story Behind Give Cares

Give Cares Inc. was born out of tragedy, love, and a deep commitment to protecting other families from the devastating impact of unrecognized mental health struggles.

The organization was founded after the heartbreaking loss of Give E. Clerzeau, a beloved son, brother, and member of the Haitian community who died by suicide. His passing left his entire family devastated and struggling with profound grief and emotional trauma.

In the months and years following his death, the Clerzeau family experienced the ripple effects that suicide can leave behind. Family members of all ages, from the oldest to the youngest—began facing their own mental health challenges, including severe anxiety, depression, and even thoughts of suicide.

As the family reflected on the months leading up to Give’s death, they began to recognize something deeply troubling: there had been warning signs. However, at the time, they did not have the awareness, knowledge, or resources needed to recognize those signs as indicators of serious mental health distress.

Like many families within the Haitian and Caribbean communities, conversations about mental health were often limited by stigma, misunderstanding, and cultural barriers. What they now understand were cries for help were not recognized in time.

Out of this pain came a powerful determination.

Give Cares Inc. was created to ensure that no other family has to experience the same loss simply because the warning signs were not understood.

The organization works to increase mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and provide culturally relevant education and resources, particularly for Haitian men and families who often face unique barriers when seeking support.

Through community education, outreach programs, support services, and partnerships, Give Cares seeks to help individuals recognize the signs of emotional distress, encourage open conversations about mental health, and connect people with life-saving resources before a crisis occurs.

The mission of Give Cares is simple but urgent: To turn pain into purpose and to transform loss into hope for others.

By honoring the life and memory of Give E. Clerzeau, the organization strives to build stronger, healthier communities where individuals feel seen, supported, and empowered to seek help when they need it most.
